Trindade hosts the state qualifying round of the Goiano University Games and expands its prominence in sports – Municipality of Trindade

The city of Trindade hosted the Goiano University Games (JUGs) State Selection this past weekend, with athletes from various regions of the state competing over three days. The event took place between Friday (06/03) and Sunday morning (08/03) and served as a qualifier for the Brazilian University Games (JUBs), which will also be held in the municipality in August and September of this year.
In total, 520 athletes, students from 11 higher education institutions in Goiás, participated in the competitions, in addition to the technical commissions and support teams. The event also generated a positive impact on the local economy. More than 200 athletes stayed in Trindade’s hotel network, which strengthened tourism and boosted commerce, restaurants, and services in the city.
The delegations came from various municipalities in Goiás state, including Anápolis, Aparecida de Goiânia, Goiânia, Goianésia, Goiatuba, Inhumas, São Luís de Montes Belos, Jataí, Rio Verde, Quirinópolis, and Porangatu, in addition to athletes from the host city itself.
During the three days of competition, university students competed in different sports. Among them were 7-a-side football and table football, in individual and doubles categories (1v1 and 2v2). In the beach sports, the public watched matches and competitions in Beach Handball, Beach Soccer, Beach Tennis, Beach Wrestling, Cross Training, Beach Volleyball, Footvolley and 4×4 Beach Volleyball, which brought activity to the municipality’s sports arenas.
Mayor Marden Júnior attended the competitions and highlighted the importance of Trindade hosting large-scale sporting events, emphasizing the municipality’s growth in this area.
“This is the first time Trindade has hosted the JUGs (University Games) and we will also be hosting the JUBs (Brazilian University Games). This reinforces our city’s potential to host major sporting events. We are already known for holding the largest pilgrimage in the Midwest and the second largest in Brazil. Now, we are also consolidating Trindade as a reference in sports,” he stated.
The president of the Goiana Federation of University Sports (FGDU), Lusimar Santos, highlighted the infrastructure offered by the city to host the competition.
“Trindade has shown that it is ready to host major sporting events. The city has an excellent location, a good hotel network, and sports facilities prepared to host competitions of this magnitude,” he stated.
State Representative Cristiano Galindo emphasized the importance of the event for the visibility of the municipality.
“Hosting a competition with this level of prominence puts Trindade in the spotlight on the national university sports calendar,” he pointed out.
The Goiana Federation of University Sports (FGDU) works to connect athletes, universities, and sports institutions, aiming to strengthen academic sports and expand development opportunities for student-athletes. The organization is affiliated with the Brazilian Confederation of University Sports (CBDU), a status that guarantees Goiana athletes the opportunity to participate in national competitions, such as the Brazilian University Games.
With the state qualifying rounds taking place and the confirmation that Trindade will also host the national stage of the competition, the municipality reaffirms its capacity to host major events and expands its profile in the Brazilian sports scene.
